YOUTH DOING THE RIGHT THING 
The Birmingham Urban League will celebrate Youth Doing The Right Thing on Saturday, October 16, 2010 at 4:00 p.m. at St. Paul United Methodist Church downtown.
Youth Doing The Right Thing awards will be given in three age categories: 12-14, 15-16, and 17-18, as well as in three areas: Education, Community Service and Work Ethics. A panel of judges will select the overall winner in each of the three categories and they will receive a special “Meet The Challenge” award. Nominations are open to students attending public, private and parochial schools.
Education - youth will be honored for academic achievement, extra-curricular activities, overcoming adverse circumstances and positive peer leadership.
Community Service - criteria includes positive peer leadership, number of years volunteering, level of participation in church/religious activities, and promotion of family values.
Work Ethics - focuses on attendance and punctuality on the job, interpersonal skills, completing assigned task(s) on time, appearance, positive attitude and behavior, and respecting authority. All categories require a letter of recommendation.
The public is invited to help in this effort to recognize youth that are Doing The Right Thing because indeed our children equal our destiny.
