YOUTH DOING THE RIGHT THING

The Birmingham Urban League will celebrate Youth Doing The Right Thing on Saturday, October 16, 2010 at 4:00 p.m. at St. Paul United Methodist Church downtown.

Youth Doing The Right Thing awards will be given in three age categories: 12-14, 15-16, and 17-18, as well as in three areas: Education, Community Service and Work Ethics. A panel of judges will select the overall winner in each of the three categories and they will receive a special “Meet The Challenge” award. Nominations are open to students attending public, private and parochial schools.

Education - youth will be honored for academic achievement, extra-curricular activities, overcoming adverse circumstances and positive peer leadership.

Community Service - criteria includes positive peer leadership, number of years volunteering, level of participation in church/religious activities, and promotion of family values.

Work Ethics - focuses on attendance and punctuality on the job, interpersonal skills, completing assigned task(s) on time, appearance, positive attitude and behavior, and respecting authority. All categories require a letter of recommendation.

The public is invited to help in this effort to recognize youth that are Doing The Right Thing because indeed our children equal our destiny. Nominations are now being accepted at the Birmingham Urban League, Inc. P.O Box 11269, Birmingham, AL 35202-1269 and must be postmarked by Thursday, September 30, 2010. For additional information, call Risper Mwangi at (205) 326-0162 or Download NOW YDRT Nomination Form
